Teaching Positions

Forest preschool teacher

Wauhatchie Forest School is seeking part time employees for our half day, M-F nature immersion program. We seek nature loving educators who are intentional and reflective in their work with children and who are looking to grow professionally through mentorship and teamwork within a supportive community of outdoor practitioners. The ideal candidate is dedicated to expanding access to early learning, child-directed and play-based learning, and the outdoors. The Forest Preschool Teacher will work with a co-teacher to create an optimal learning environment for the students and will spend the entire class session in the outdoors in all weather, including hiking and moderate physical challenges. Employment is 10 months, from August to May with summer camp employment available in June and July.


Forest School K-5 Teacher

Wauhatchie Forest School is seeking nature loving educators who are intentional and reflective in their work with children and who are looking to grow professionally through mentorship and teamwork within a supportive community of outdoor practitioners. The Forest K-5 Teacher will foster and facilitate the intellectual and social development of the children in an outdoor environment. Teaching this class in the forest includes observing and assessing class interests, planning and implementing lessons that expand on current interests, and creatively documenting class lessons to showcase the progress of the students. Teachers will work together, utilizing planning time to create optimal lesson plans and learning environments. The Forest K-5 Teacher will spend extended periods of time outdoors in all weather, including hiking and moderate physical challenges.


Forest Jr. Kindergarten Teacher

Wauhatchie Forest School is seeking full time employees for our full day, M-F Junior Kindergarten nature immersion program. We seek nature loving educators who are intentional and reflective in their work with children and who are looking to grow professionally through mentorship and teamwork within a supportive community of outdoor practitioners. The ideal candidate is dedicated to expanding access to early learning, child-directed and play-based learning, and the outdoors. The Forest JrK Teacher will work with a co-teacher to create an optimal learning environment for the students that facilitates adaptation to the outdoors and a gentle transition to kindergarten. Forest practitioners will spend the entire class session in the outdoors in all weather, including hiking and moderate physical challenges. Employment is 10 months, from August to May with summer camp employment available in June and July.


Substitute Forest School Teacher

Site: Possible positions at all four sites: Reflection Riding Arboretum & Nature Center Lookout Lake, Audubon Acres and Ivy Academy

Position Overview: Substitute Forest School Teacher responsibilities include observing and assessing class interests, occasionally planning and implementing lessons and activities that expand on children’s current interests. The substitute teacher will work with co-teacher to create an optimal learning environment for the students. All classes are conducted outside and the substitute teacher should be prepared to teach in various weather conditions.
